Ok, your first reaction will be like mine. Cool graph. But dare go to the embeded link you'll find an astonishing interactive presentation of The Journey.
It's worth the 15 minutes spent. Dig into the research results by clicking on the dots on the pathways, clic on the cloud to see the climate.

What striked me the most is the super-eruption of Mt Toba and the number of survivors !

According to the recent single origin hypothesis, human ancestors originated in Africa, and eventually made their way out to the rest of the world.

The Journey of Mankind is a virtual global journey of modern man over the last 160,000 years. The map shows the interaction of migration and climate over this period.

I did a little research on the foundation and I have not found anything odd in its financing.

The Bradshaw Foundation provides an online learning resource. Its main areas of focus are archaeology, anthropology and genetic research, and its primary objective is to discover, document and preserve ancient rock art around the world, and promote the study of early mankind’s artistic achievements. The Foundation funds preservation projects around the world, scientific research and research publication. The Foundation carries out its work in collaboration with UNESCO, the Royal Geographic Society, the National Geographic Society, the Rock Art Research Institute in South Africa and the Trust for African Rock Art to ensure that the programs achieve maximum impact. It is a privately funded, non-profit organisation based in Geneva.

Atlantide - Atlantis

Et c'est à ce moment là que Tristan m'a dit : "laisse-moi faire, je vais te montrer où c'est".

L'Atlantide !?

J'admets que c'est intriguant. Des lignes si droite, au fond de l'océan, restes d'une ancienne ville, des routes, des acqueducs, de fortifications qu'est-ce que ça peut bien être?

C'est une obsession d'enfant qui refaisait surface. J'ai recommencé à lire sur le sujet. On positionne l'Atlantide au centre de l'Atlantique mais aussi en Méditerranée et en Mer Noire.

Mais le hic c'est que c'est gros ! 168 km de côté.

C'est Montréal - Trois-Rivières. En fait c'est de l'autre bout de l'île (Dorion) jusqu'au Cap-de-la-Madeleine.

J'ai pensé à comparer avec les bassins de rétention d'eau de Siem Reap, contruit par les Khmer au 11e siècle (West Baray). 22 kilomètres au mieux, rien à voir.

C'est vraiment très large, ça dépasse l'échelle humaine. La réponse officielle dit que c'est le résultat du processus utilisé pour cartographier les fonds marins, des bateaux qui trainent un sonar. Mais... pourquoi ce schéma n'apparaît que là !!! ??

Je ne sais pas. J'aime bien entretenir le mythe, c'est plaisant ;-)

Ethiopia's Jerusalem model

Ria m'a fait découvrir ce lieu, je n'en avais jamais entendu parler avant.
S'y trouve 13 églises taillées dans le rock sous le règne de Lalibela il y a plus de 500 ans.
Cette reproduction Éthiopienne de Jérusalem contiendrait l'Arche d'Alliance avec les tables de Moïse.
Peux importe le côté mystique, la simple prouesse architecturale doit être considérée.
C'est situé dans la ville qui porte maintenant son nom: Lalibela (Carte)

The 13 rock-hewn churches were erected during the reign of Lalibela, 500 years ago in the city of Roha.
Many believe the Ark of the Covenant is kept there with the Tablets of Moses.
Whether or not it contain the sacred text, the architectural achievement itself is worth the interest.
It is located in the city now named by the king : Lalibela

It suggests that the artefact [Ark] would not have been housed in Axum, but in Lalibela […] With its dedication to Mary, it is assumed that the Beta Maryam, where Hancock was told that the name of God had been carved onto the central pillar, was the most likely location where the “Ark” would have been kept.

Fun historic facts... I just ignore the sources of all this information, take lightly.

Some that I liked:

- At Andrew Jackson's funeral in 1845, his pet parrot had to be removed because it was swearing.
- In the Holocaust between 5.1 and 6 million of Europe's 10 million Jews were killed. An additional 6 million 'unwanted' people were also executed, including more than half of Poland's educated populace.
- On December 20, 1860, South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union. See Also : "Force Bill"
- The peace symbol was created in 1958 as a nuclear disarmament symbol by the Direct Action Committee, and was first shown that year at peace marches in England. The symbol is a composite of the semaphore signals N and D, representing nuclear disarmament.
- The White House, in Washington DC, was originally gray, the color of the sandstone it was built out of. After the War of 1812, during which it had been burned by Canadian troops, the outside walls were painted white to hide the smoke stains.
- Until 1965, driving was done on the left-hand side on roads in Sweden. The conversion to right-hand was done on a weekday at 5 p.m. All traffic stopped as people switched sides. This time and day were chosen to prevent accidents where drivers would have gotten up in the morning and been too sleepy to realize 'this' was the day of the changeover. Le saviez-vous ?

Je fouinais sur Franklin Delano Roosevelt lorsque j'ai appris qu'il était le seul président américain (32e) à avoir fait 4 mandats consécutifs. Wow.

Puis en regardant rapidement la bio des 2 autres qui ont essayé sans succès (Ulysses S. Grant (18e) & Theodore Roosevelt (26e)), j'ai découvert 2 autres anecdotes intéressantes:

L'origine probable du mot "Lobbyist" :

Grant est connu pour avoir fréquenté les salons de l'hôtel Willard, à Washington, pour évacuer les pressions dues à sa fonction. Beaucoup de gens tentaient de l'approcher alors qu'il franchissait l'entrée (lobby en anglais). Grant les appelait « ces sacrés lobbyist » ; c'est peut être l'origine du terme utilisé actuellement pour désigner les personnes qui abordent les législateurs pour tenter d'influencer leur vote.

L'origine probable "la plus courante" du terme "Teddy Bear":

L'origine de « Teddy Bear », qui désigne un ours en peluche, fait l'objet de plusieurs anecdotes invérifiables. La plus courante est la suivante : en 1903, Roosevelt rentra bredouille d'une chasse à l'ours de quatre jours. Croyant faire plaisir, les organisateurs enchaînèrent un ourson noir au pied d'un arbre afin de satisfaire les cartouches du président : outré par cette mise à mort, Théodore Roosevelt fait libérer l'animal. Deux émigrants russes, Rose et Morris Mictchom, immortalisent cette histoire en créant un ours en peluche qu'ils baptisèrent Teddy. Le succès fut immédiat puisque, peu de temps après, ils créent leur propre atelier The Ideal Novelty in Toy Co.

Les dômes de l'antiquité

J'ai fait une p'tite curve dans l'histoire aujourd'hui:..

commencé le tout avec une recherche banale sur la définition du mot "manquant" histoire de savoir si je pouvais mettre un "s" et l'accorder.

Comme au primaire dans les concours de recherche de mots dans le dictionnaire j'ai commencé à lire un texte sur Rome, puis je me suis étendu à Bizance pour en arriver à la conquête de Constantinople en1453 et je suis passé par Sainte-Sophie construite de 532 à 537 puis le Panthéon Romain avec sa coupole de 43,5m, la plus grande de l'antiquité (Sainte-Sophie : 32 m) pour finir avec Napoléon pendant une discussion avec ma mère.
