Lequel de ces gestes a le plus d'impact quant à la protection de l'environnement: laver à l'eau froide? manger moins de viande? chauffer moins la nuit ou recycler? La réponse se trouve à la fin du texte.

Il s'agit de l'un des 24 gestes préconisés par Défi climat, une campagne annuelle de sensibilisation à la lutte aux changements climatiques, dont la deuxième édition se tient du 10 mars au 24 avril. Dès que l'on parle de réduire les émissions personnelles de gaz à effet de serre (GES), on prêche souvent à un converti.

«Il faut faire beaucoup de sensibilisation auprès du grand public, de façon différente, a affirmé la directrice générale du Fonds d'action québécois pour le développement durable, Véronique Jampierre, au cours d'une conférence de presse, mardi, à Québec. Les gens veulent agir, mais ne savent pas comment, ou quand ils le font, ils ne persévèrent pas.»

D'où l'idée de s'adresser aux entreprises et institutions pour solliciter la participation de la population.

On fait d'une pierre, deux coups: en relayant le message, les entreprises sont obligées de réfléchir sur leurs propres pratiques environnementales. Pour s'inscrire, elles doivent d'ailleurs compter sur un comité en environnement ou s'engager à en créer un.

L'an passé, les 130 entreprises impliquées ont permis à 25 000 individus de s'engager pour une réduction de 26 000 tonnes de GES, l'équivalent au retrait de 6347 voitures en circulation.

«On pense que c'est une formule gagnante, a dit le coordonnateur général adjoint d'Equiterre, Steven Guilbeault. À très court terme, on veut étendre la campagne à toute la province et, pourquoi pas, ensuite, à l'ensemble du pays. C'est aussi une façon de dire que nous sommes tous dans le même bateau: industries, gouvernements et individus ont la responsabilité d'agir.»

Les gestes et les réductions de GES peuvent sembler minimes, mais il faut bien commencer quelque part, a affirmé le conseiller municipal de Québec, Raymond Dion, mardi, à la conférence de presse.

Notamment «en arrêtant de vivre dans une société complètement axée sur l'auto», comme le faisait valoir le directeur général du Conseil général de l'environnement de Québec, Alexandre Turgeon.

Au-delà du fait que tout le monde doit faire sa part pour réduire la pollution, Défi climat permet une réflexion dans toutes les sphères publiques sur l'obligation pour le Québec d'opter pour un développement durable, «qui est un projet de société», a jugé Véronique Jampierre.

Alors, quels gestes comptez-vous poser?

Le plus vert, à domicile, constitue un véritable défi. Eliminer quatre repas de viande par semaine permet de diminuer de 416 kg les émissions de gaz carbonique par an, comparativement à diminuer le chauffage de trois degrés Celsius la nuit, (190 kg/an), recycler (30 kg/an) et laver à l'eau froide (12 kg/an)."

Je me suis rendu sur le site de Défi Climat et j'ai retrouvé l'information à la page "Les gestes à poser".

Intéressant. Mais la viande c'est bon. Je creuse encore pour trouver la source. Cette donnée provient de Nature Québec. En fait le lien donne sur une publication de Nature Québec. Le site de l'organisme se trouve ici. C'est bon pour les données sur les émissions de méthane. J'abdique... en attendant qu'ils trouvent des façons de modifier la flore intestinale des bovins afin que moins de méthane ne soit produit.

Maison développement durable: Équiterre fait rager les écolos purs et durs

Greenpeace se distancie du projet. La coalition Québec-Kyoto et l'Association de la lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique ont déjà ouvertement dénoncé l'idée. Malgré tout, Équiterre persiste et signe avec son projet de construction d'une Maison du développement durable, au centre-ville, en plein coeur du Quartier des spectacles.

L'organisme, déjà partenaire d'Hydro-Québec dans ce projet, vient de conclure un partenariat avec Bell Canada et s'apprête à lancer une campagne de financement auprès des entreprises privées, a appris La Presse. De quoi faire grincer des dents les écologistes purs et durs, qui clament qu'il faut absolument maintenir «une distance» entre les organismes et les compagnies pour assurer une «objectivité environnementale.»



Grâce à Hydro-Québec, qui a cédé un de ses terrains par emphytéose pour 50 ans, à l'angle des rues Sainte-Catherine et Clark, Équiterre a bon espoir de faire sortir de terre son siège social au mois de mai, pour une ouverture à l'automne 2010. Actuellement, des tests sont réalisés sur le site afin d'installer un audacieux système de géothermie qui alimentera tout le bâtiment.

Au début du mois de février, le projet a franchi une étape importante en obtenant l'appui des élus de l'arrondissement de Ville-Marie. Les citoyens du quartier qui sont en désaccord avec le projet ont jusqu'au 27 février pour demander un référendum. Après cette date, il sera trop tard. «Il ne restera qu'à approuver le projet», précise Jacques-Alain Lavallée, porte-parole de l'arrondissement, qui ajoute qu'on n'aura jamais fait aussi vert en matière de construction à Montréal.

La future Maison du développement durable enfreint toutefois les règles d'urbanisme avec ses six étages projetés, soit cinq mètres de plus que les limites permises dans le secteur. Même si des places de stationnement doivent obligatoirement être aménagées, selon le règlement, Équiterre a d'autre part décidé de suivre complètement les notions de développement durable en demandant une dérogation pour bannir les véhicules au profit de 40 places pour vélos réparties à l'extérieur et à l'intérieur de l'édifice.

Quant à Hydro-Québec, elle pousse l'audace plus loin en acceptant d'aménager une sorte de parc écologique entre la nouvelle construction et le Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, l'institution voisine. La garderie Le Petit Réseau, qui accueille les enfants des employés d'Hydro-Québec, emménagera dans la Maison du développement durable et accueillera les enfants des employés des organismes locataires.

«Nous sommes mal à l'aise, explique André Bélisle, de l'Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique. On remarque depuis déjà un bon moment qu'Équiterre ne critique pas beaucoup Hydro-Québec. Et on se demande par ailleurs pourquoi l'organisme reçoit plus d'argent du gouvernement que tous les organismes environnementaux du Québec réunis.»

Afin de calmer le jeu, Équiterre a rencontré une vingtaine d'organismes pour expliquer le projet. «ll est habituel que les organismes reçoivent des sources de financement de toutes sortes, précise François Boulanger, coordonnateur énergie, transports et bâtiments d'Équiterre. On pense que notre approche est correcte.»

Grâce à ce projet, Équiterre ambitionne d'aller chercher une certification platine, la plus haute distinction Leed en matière de construction. Afin d'y parvenir, il est prévu d'aménager un toit vert et un bistro de 80 places qui servira bio, local et équitable. La Maison étudie aussi les façons de récupérer les matières organiques, soit en les compostant ou en les acheminant dans un centre de transformation. Enfin, le vitrage sera triple afin de réduire les pertes d'énergie.



La Maison en bref

La Maison verte abritera neuf organismes: Équiterre, le centre de la petite enfance Petit Réseau, le Centre québécois du droit de l'environnement, le Conseil régional de l'environnement (CRE) de Montréal, Environnement Jeunesse, la Fondation David Suzuki, Option Consommateurs, le Regroupement de services Éco-quartiers et le Regroupement national des conseils régionaux de l'environnement du Québec. Le cinquième étage est encore à louer à un partenaire éventuel.

Coût du projet: 30 millions, payés par le privé et une subvention de 7 millions du gouvernement du Québec.

Il s'agira d'un édifice de six étages, avec rez-de-chaussée vitré, ouvert au public: bistro bio de 80 places, centre de conférence de 100 places et atrium. Il comportera aussi un Centre d'interprétation sur le bâtiment vert et sur le développement durable."

Et si l'on écrivait l'histoire de ces artistes de l'ombre du coin d'un oeil.

Ceux là qui pour quelques "groszy" vous livrent une parcelle de leur vie.


Musiciens de boîte à flûtes, gratteurs de guitare à contes ou raconteurs d'accordéon à chansons.

Toujours l'air triste, un peu, toujours la main ouverte, tendue.

Pourtant l'air absent, faux joyeux; ils mènent une vie de contrastes.


Natasha est piccoliste de grandes places animées. Ses airs léger emballent la foule et volent aux passants des sifflements de complicité. Son âme pourtant vogue sur les airs tristes du Dr. Jivago en lambeaux déchirés, errant dans la steppe desertée, congelée. Natasha s'exécute où son coeur l'appelle, près des tables en terrasse du bistrot ou des portes du caveau. Sa plus grande frousse, devoir entrer, bosser et y être prisonnière toute la journée.


Victor est directeur de boîte à musique. Il supervise le souffle des sifflets de bois, les pas de pantins de chaque coin ainsi que le ton de la musique accordée au roulement de la manivelle et aux profondeurs des pistons. Il s'installe toujours près de chez Dom Restauracyjny, Gessler, le resto avec de l'herbe pour plancher. Car il y trouve son ombre, et ses passants qu'il connaît tous par leurs paroles silencieuses et leurs regards curieux-timides. Sa plus grande crainte serait de quitter sa vie rythmée au battement de son bras tournant. Il souffre du regard quotidien de centaines de passants qui viennent et qui vont en souriant, hypocrites, poliement.



Anais, est charmeuse de corde à guitare. Envouteuse indienne, pareille, celles qu'elle gratte lui obéissent et chantent pour les auditeurs-passants des mélodies d'autre temps. Elle déploie son théâtre sur les pavés, adossée au rebord du trottoir, exposée. Ses genous sur le plastique, sur la pierre, sont usés, blessés. Son coeur congelé, tiraillé entre le désir de se lever et bouger et celui d'entendre tinter un "zloty" lancé, la fixe dans l'espoir. Ce qu'elle croit craindre le plus: perdre sa "liberté" d'aller.


Stalislav est clown. Sur son bloc, immobile, il tient la pose. Silencieux, les yeux vitreux, les muscles douloureux, il prendrait bien un repas, du repos, du soleil, juste un peu. Sans avoir à amuser petits derniers et grands bébés qui le font s'exécuter sans le payer. Il a mal à demain, pareil à l'aujourd'hui de sa peine; au présent de chaque minute où il doit cacher sous un sourire trop grand, trop rouge, trop accroché, sa détresse. Ainsi que toutes celles marquées dans les rides profondes qui s'expriment de chaque côté de ses yeux et qui servent de goutière la soirée arrivée. Il vit pour le souffle, le rire spontané, d'un enfant de passage. Il vit, moi je le dis, mais le clown se meurt.


Marie-Julie est dompteuse d'inconnu, exploratrice de civilisation, entraîneuse de voyageurs, éleveuse d'un quotidien différent de demain. Elle s'exécute partout du soir au matin. Peu importe la langue ou les coutumes du public elle s'y trouve, s'y ajuste et obtient ce pourquoi elle tend la main. Son théâtre elle le déroule où le vent veut bien la porter, où la nécessité se pointe le nez. Elle a la tête trouble de nouvelles idées, de projets, de choses à raconter, de questions à poser.

Mais devant elle, il n'y a que le passant inconnu pour l'écouter.

Ce qui la fait le plus reculer c'est de penser que jamais elle ne pourra quitter ce monde qu'elle n'a pas adopté.

Un inconnu... au détour du chemin

J'ai reçu ceci par personne interposée. Je suis allé fouiner sur YouTube histoire de voir... et j'ai vu.

Intéressant.

Un musicien de rue était debout dans l'entrée de la station L'Enfant Plaza du métro de Washington DC.
Il a commencé à jouer du violon.
C'était un matin froid, en janvier dernier.
Il a joué durant quarante-cinq minutes.
Pour commencer, la chaconne de la 2e partita de Bach, puis l'Ave Maria de Schubert, du Manuel Ponce, du Massenet et de nouveau Bach.
A cette heure de pointe, vers 8h du matin, quelque mille personnes ont traversé ce couloir, pour la plupart en route vers leur boulot.

Après trois minutes, un homme d'âge mûr a remarqué qu'un musicien jouait.
Il a ralenti son pas, s'est arrêté quelques secondes puis a démarré en accélérant.
Une minute plus tard, le violoniste a reçu son premier dollar : en continuant droit devant, une femme lui a jeté l'argent dans son petit pot.
Quelques minutes plus tard, un quidam s'est appuyé sur le mur d'en face pour l'écouter mais il a regardé sa montre et a recommencé à marcher..
Il était clairement en retard.

Celui qui a marqué le plus d'attention fut un petit garçon qui devait avoir trois ans.
Sa mère l'a tiré, pressée mais l'enfant s'est arrêté pour regarder le violoniste.
Finalement sa mère l'a secoué et agrippé brutalement afin que l'enfant reprenne le pas.
Toutefois, en marchant, il a gardé sa tête tournée vers le musicien.
Cette scène s'est répétée plusieurs fois avec d'autres enfants.
Et les parents, sans exception, les ont forcés à bouger.

Durant les trois quarts d'heure de jeu du musicien, seules sept personnes se sont vraiment arrêtées pour l'écouter un temps.
Une vingtaine environ lui a donné de l'argent tout en en continuant leur marche.
Il a récolté 32 dollars.
Quand il a eu fini de jouer, personne ne l'a remarqué.
Personne n'a applaudi.
Une seule personne l'a reconnu, sur plus de mille personnes.

Personne ne se doutait que ce violoniste était Joshua Bell, un des meilleurs musiciens sur terre.
Il a joué dans ce hall les partitions les plus difficiles jamais écrites, avec un Stradivarius de 1713 valant 3,5 millions de dollars !
Deux jours avant de jouer dans le métro, sa prestation au théâtre de Boston était « sold out » avec des prix avoisinant les 100 dollars la place..

C'est une histoire vraie.
Joshua Bell jouant incognito dans une station de métro a été organisé par le « Washington Post » dans le cadre d'une enquête sur la perception, les goûts et les priorités d'action des gens.

Les questions étaient :
-Dans un environnement commun, à une heure inappropriée, pouvons-nous percevoir la beauté ?
-Nous arrêtons-nous pour l'apprécier ?
-Pouvons-nous reconnaître le talent dans un contexte inattendu?

Une des possibles conclusions de cette expérience pourrait être :
si nous n'avons pas le temps pour nous arrêter et écouter l'un des meilleurs musiciens au monde jouant quelques-unes des plus belles partitions jamais composées, à côté de combien d'autres choses exceptionnelles passons-nous ?

2nd base ?... Homerun !

Grant est connu pour avoir fréquenté les salons de l'hôtel Willard, à Washington, pour évacuer les pressions dues à sa fonction. Beaucoup de gens tentaient de l'approcher alors qu'il franchissait l'entrée (lobby en anglais). Grant les appelait « ces sacrés lobbyist » ; c'est peut être l'origine du terme utilisé actuellement pour désigner les personnes qui abordent les législateurs pour tenter d'influencer leur vote.

L'origine probable "la plus courante" du terme "Teddy Bear":

L'origine de « Teddy Bear », qui désigne un ours en peluche, fait l'objet de plusieurs anecdotes invérifiables. La plus courante est la suivante : en 1903, Roosevelt rentra bredouille d'une chasse à l'ours de quatre jours. Obama sworn in as US president

Barack Obama has become the 44th president of the United States, during an inauguration ceremony witnessed by at least one million people in Washington DC.

Obama was sworn in as the US commander-in-chief just after noon local time (1700 GMT) on Tuesday, becoming the first African-American to hold the post.

"I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors," Obama said, minutes after taking the oath of presidential office from John Roberts, the US chief justice.

"Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace.

"Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents."

Kennedy collapses

Hours after his inauguration, Obama addressed members of the US congress at a special lunch event, which was overshadowed by the collapse of a senator.

The American news channel CNN and other networks identified the victim as Edward Kennedy, the Massachusetts senator who is battling a life-threatening brain tumour.

Television networks reported that Kennedy required medical attention after Robert Byrd, 91, a West Virginia Democratic senator, also took ill.

"It looked like a seizure and it was painful to him [Kennedy]," Orin Hatch, a Utah Republican senator, said.

"But ... as he got into the ambulance he kind of looked over at me and smiled that old Irish smile that I know [meant] that things are going to be all right."

After the lunch, at which Obama paid tribute to Kennedy, the new president walked with his wife along Washington's Pennsylvania Avenue as part of an inauguration parade.

US challenges

Nicolas Sarkozy, France's president, said after Obama's inauguration: "We are eager for him to get to work so that with him we can change the world".

Meanwhile, Gordon Brown, Britain's prime minister, said Obama's ascendancy to the US presidency marked a "new chapter in both American history and the world's history."

Obama acknowledged that the US faces several challenges, from military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan to economic concerns at home.

"That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age," he said.

"Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met.

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord."

Rob Reynolds, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Washington, said: "Some of the things I thought were stand-out moments included his [Obama's] call for an era of responsibility, which was a theme in the speech.

"He also said, very specifically, in something of a rebuke to the outgoing president, George Bush, that America is ready to lead again.

"Clearly the implication is that America failed to show leadership in the last few years."

'Different track'

Obama's speech was aimed at convincing Americans that he will take a different course from Bush, said Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera's senior political analyst.

"This speech was not about what he is - a political operator - but who he is. He said it is not about big or small government, but about government that works,"

"Obama didn't say anything about a War on Terror, which we've been hearing about for the last eight years, but he did say we are at war against a network which is far different to what we have heard before."

But Robert Fisk, a Beirut-based journalist for the London-based Independent newspaper, said Obama's speech did not highlight any wholesale shift in US strategy.

"I do not think there was a great difference from the rhetoric of Bush but we didn't get taken through 9/11 again," he said.

Fisk also described the speech as "very long, almost a sermon" and as being "meagre on the Middle East" because it did not reference the Palestinian issue.

"Many people in this region [the Middle East] are going to say 'didn't he see the pictures on TV in the last few days'... it's the Middle East that will come back again and again and I don't think he chose to address it," he said.

Obama and his wife Michelle began inauguration day by attending a service at St John's Episcopal church, which lies a short distance from the White House.

Obama then went to the White House to share coffee with George Bush, the outgoing US president, and Dick Cheney, the outgoing vice-president.

Bush and Cheney later left the White House for the last time, with Bush joining Obama in a motorcade heading to the Capitol for the inauguration ceremony.

After Obama's inauguration, Bush and his wife Laura boarded a helicopter waiting next to the US Capitol, to begin their journey to Midland, Texas.

'Destinies shared'

Central Washington DC was inundated by hundreds of thousands of people keen to witness Obama's inauguration.

"This crowd was hanging on every word Obama was saying. At some moments, he was solemn and the crowd listened carefully. Then he talked about the US becoming strong again, and there was a lot of flag waving," Cath Turner, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Washington DC, said.

Grace Clark, a spectator who had travelled from California, said she had been inspired by Obama's speech.

"It was a new beginning for me, which I was able to share with my daughter here. It gave me the sense that we allhave responsibilities of trying to make changes in the future," she told Al Jazeera.

Torrey Pocock, a self-confessed Republican voter, said he was in Washington to witness a festival of democracy.

"For the country, given its past history [of racism], to put its trust in an African-American president is an incredible thing," he said.

"This is an opportunity to see a bloodless revolution, a opportunity to completely change regimes."

Obama's inauguration came a day after he called on Americans to unite in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr, the murdered civil rights leader.

"Tomorrow, we will come together as one people on the same mall where Dr King's dream echoes still. As we do, we recognise that here in America, our destinies are inextricably linked," he said in a statement on Monday.

"We resolve that as we walk, we must walk together. And as we go forward in the work of renewing the promise of this nation, let's remember King's lesson - that our separate dreams are really one."

White House press secretary Dana Perino said the theme of the message _ which Bush wrote on Monday _ is similar to what he has said since election night about how Obama is about to start a “fabulous new chapter“ in the United States, and that he wishes him well.
The unfinished business of the Bush administration thrusts an enormous burden onto Obama’s shoulders. Inauguration polls showed Americans believe Obama is on track to succeed and are confident he can turn the economy around. He has cautioned that improvements will take time and that things will get worse before they get better.

Barack Obama has been sworn in as President of the United States.

People from around the country swarmed Washington on a cold January day to witness the historic swearing-in ceremony.

It was a ceremony steeped in tradition, the mood was electric and change was in the air.

'…I Barack Hussein Obama do solemnly swear.'

Standing before the U.S. Capitol Barack Obama became the first African-American President of the United States.

'... so help me God!'

In less than one minute, the peaceful transfer of power was complete, and a new chapter in U.S. history had begun.

'I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors,' President Obama said.

He looked out at a massive, diverse American crowd, and urged unity.

'On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord,' Mr. Obama said.

Th new president inherits a nation at war and in the midst of an economic crisis. He said the challenges facing the nation will not be met quickly or easily. But he vowed they will be met.

'What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility - recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and our world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly,' Mr. Obama said.

He said that is the price and the promise of citizenship.

'This is the meaning our liberty and our creed - why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent Mall, and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath,' Mr. Obama said.

Obama also had a message for the world. He spoke of America's desire for peace, and its determination to seek the common good.

'To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy,' Mr. Obama said. 'To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.'

And when the official ceremony was over, George W. Bush left the stage. He shook the hand of his successor, walked to a waiting helicopter, and waved farewell to Washington and the 44th President of the United States.

This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works - whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account - to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day - because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control - and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our Gross Domestic Product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on our ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart - not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.

As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Je le publie quand même ici plus pour clore la grande question que cela suscitait chez moi que pour le texte (même si je le trouve bon). Je me souciais de la rigueur journalistique, de l'influence que la lecture de ce texte d'opinion/information aurait pour moi. Lorsque je lis Dubuc ou Foglia dans La Presse je sais qu'ils ont été relus, que derrière eux une équipe complète s'active, des relecteurs, un rédacteur en chef et qu'une histoire de rigueur supporte ce journal. Et j'ai appris à les connaître... comme des vieux chums. Sur l'internet qu'en est-il ? N'importe qui peut écrire n'importe quoi. Sur Mondialisation.ca, comment c'est organisé ???


Quelques trucs trouvés sur l'auteur : Tanya Cariina Hsu est chercheure en politique et analyste spécialisée dans les relations entre l’Arabie Saoudite et les États-Unis. - Ses sources ? Mais est-ce que Dubuc et Foglia publient les leurs ? Cependant, étant donné la crédibilité à gagner à mes yeux, j'aurais aimé en avoir.

- Le rôle "mesquin" de "J.P. Morgan" n'est pas mentionné aussi clairement dans les sources que j'ai pu consulter. En la lisant, nous avons l'impression que c'est un Madoff du début du siècle. D'où tient-elle cela ?

Les grandes lignes sont bonnes, elle condamne les excès de l'endettement et de la croissance infinie des marchés. Mais je trouve que pour le faire, elle affirme des choses qui font sortir de route le lecteur. Nous en arrivons à nous demander, avec raison, où est-elle allé piger tout ça ? Essaie-t-elle de m'enmener en bateau dans de l'anti-américanisme ne sachant pas faire la part des choses ?


Globalement je trouve qu'elle a de la difficulté à doser ses commentaires. Elle en perd de la crédibilité. Sinon c'est très bon et probablement qu'un jour je pourrai la lire sans me questionner sur la qualité de la recherche ou la tentative de lavage de cerveau à mon égard.


... Je commence à croire qu'il faudra la lire plus souvent ;-) C'est l'fun les sorties de route, ça suscite des questions, des "chocs cognitifs". Et au fait, c'est beaucoup de travail écrire avec rigueur, je viens d'en faire l'exercice et ce n'est que des commentaires sur un texte.

Founded in 1660 by a brilliant coterie of English scientists, the Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge, to give it its full name, has long been in the vanguard of intellectual advancement. Its record is not without blemishes, however. In 1883, Lord Kelvin, its then president, said: "X-rays will prove to be a hoax." Instead, few inventions have done more to accelerate the progress of modern medicine.

The telephone, how unBritish

In 1878, Sir William Preece, the chief engineer of the Post Office, said: "The Americans have need of the telephone, but we do not. We have plenty of messenger boys." But with nearly 80 million handsets in Britain alone – that's almost two per adult – we've never needed them more.

One can't claim ignorance about the advent of email to excuse the following prediction, made by United States postmaster general Arthur Summerfield, in 1959. "We stand on the threshold," he said, "of rocket mail". Just imagine: letters attached to horizontally aimed fireworks. What would you send?

Computers are not really for home use

Digital Equipment Corp, better known as DEC, has been a pioneer of the US computer industry. But what gripped its co-founder Ken Olsen when he argued, in 1977, that "there is no reason for any individual to have a computer at his home". More than a billion people now have home computers.

Développement durable familial - Bilan 2008

La preuve que toute notre bonne volonté ne s'est pas évaporée à notre retour de voyage autour du monde, nous avons posé des gestes concrets au cours de l'année 2008 pour faire notre part pour l'environnement. Ce n'est pas assez, évidemment, mais ce sont des premiers pas motivant qui vont se poursuivre l'an prochain. Le fait que j'en fasse un bilan est une forme d'engagement à faire mieux aussi ;-) Alors voici la petite liste des choses faites chez nous:

Achats
- Nettoyant à comptoir Bio;
- Liquide lave-vaisselle Bio;
- Savon à linge Bio;
- Lumières de Noël à l'énergie solaire.

Projets
- Remplacement des thermostats bi-métal par des numériques;
- Remplacement des ampoules brûlées par des fluo-compact;
- Isolation des combles de toît;
- Remplacement de la thermopompe.

Gestes
- Réduire le débit du robinet pendant que je me brosse les dents ;-)
- Réutilisation des calorifères de mon beau-frère dans notre sous-sol;
- Rachat des émissions de carbone lorsque je voyage en avion;
- Transport au bureau via le train de banlieu plutôt que d'acheter une seconde voiture
- Gestion des déchets toxiques issus de nos rénovations (batteries, peinture, gazon coupé).

J'ai le goût d'ajouter réduction de la consommation mais nous n'avons aucun mérite. Nous n'avons pas réduit grand chose étant donné que nous détestons magasiner. C'est vraiment vrai et ... c'est bon pour les deux. Alors le 1er des 3 "R" (Réduire, Réutiliser, Recycler) pour réduction... nous n'avons pas de mérite.

Et l'an prochain la pelouse bio, le compostage et bien d'autre.
